One Month

Somehow my baby boy is now 1 month old! I know it is what every parent says at this point, but it has flown by, and yet feels like he has always been a part of our family.
Already my little Gabriel can lift up his head and hold it there for a while, roll onto his side, unswaddle himself if we don't REALLY tightly swaddle him, make the cutest noises, and I think he is starting to work on his smile. He keeps pointing out his little pinky, which he has done from birth, but I am pretty sure it is because that is where he has his mommy and daddy wrapped around. He still fits into his newborn clothes, but he is also starting to wear some of his 0-3 month clothing too. He has already had 2 road trips and has proved to be a great traveller, sleeping the entire trip. If you compare pictures, you might notice that he is getting a bit of a receding hair line, it no longer covers up the scratch on his forehead.

Merry Christmas!

First Christmas

The whole Eads Family

Our little Christmas gift
Apparently he takes after Grandma Jensen

This is by far the most exciting Christmas for our little family. Jon and I are seeing it through new eyes. When we put up the tree we had to watch Gabriels reaction. Visiting family we got to watch grandparents drink in every moment with their new grand baby. We celebrated Christmas Eve morning, just the three of us, and spent most of the time amazed at how different this year is from last Christmas. Thankfully, the celebration is not over yet! We only have half of our Christmasing done at this point! Gabriel still has the Jensen/Currie/Wilson Christmas to attend. Today we traveled back from Minnesota. Grace, Silas and Gabriel got in on some quality cousin time. It was great to get to have the whole Eads family all together, and to actually have Christmas on Christmas day!

Hearing Voices

Lately Gabriel has been making more cooing noises. Today during some quality mommy cuddle time Gabriel kept lifting his head up while he was lying on my chest and making little noises so I could hear his voice. That little glimpse into what his voice will sound like was the most exciting thing. I already love watching his many facial expressions and I keep wondering what is going on in that cute little head. He has already made several attempts at a smile, at least that is what Jon and I have decided. He has this half smile half smirk that he loves to give us.
Last night Gabriel went to his first 'concert'. Our church had their Christmas Cantata and he made it through the whole program without adding his own voice too loudly. (Thank goodness for pacifiers!) I found out that he doesn't handle applause to well though. Each time everyone clapped he would startle, flailing his little arms and legs. It was so cute to watch!
We are gearing up for Gabriels second road trip. First he went to visit Grandma and Grandpa Jensen. There was also a baby shower while we were there, where the only game needed was pass the baby. I think Gabriel won. This week we are headed north to visit Grandma and Grandpa Eads and Uncle Dan, Aunt Jana, Grace, and Silas for his first Christmas. (Pictures to follow!)

Need more?

Last week I was talking on the phone to my dad, and at the end of the conversation he said, "I better let you go so you can post more of my grandson on that blog." So this post is for the grandparents especially.

3 weeks old!

This is one tasty bear.

Well, hello there!

Zzzz...

Gabriel has many ways he loves to spend his time like eating, staring at bright lights, and trying to figure out his crazy parents. But his favorite thing to do by far is sleep! Jon claims that, like his mom, Gabriel fights falling asleep, but once he is out he is out for a while!

2 weeks old!

Today Gabriel is 2 weeks old! He went in for his doctors appointment, and everything looks great! (Again the doctor said what a good baby he is. It is unanimous!) He has grown and shrunk. His weight is up 7lbs 11oz but his length is 20 1/8inches. The nurse told us it is just because of how the hospital and the clinic hold the heads differently so they get different measurements. We were on track today and took his 2 week picture. He has the funniest expressions when we take the photos, so I couldn't post just one of them.

New Parents

Yesterday Jon and I got another lesson in parenting. I had a baby shower to go to for a friend, so we started getting everyone ready a little earlier than usual. While we were changing a dirty diaper the cold air proved too much for Gabriel and he and Jon got a good shower. This was the first set back to arriving on time. Gabriel was escorted into the bathroom, set on a towel and we started a quick sponge bath. We were almost done and just as I was thinking... "He isn't covered, but he should be okay, it couldn't happen twice." another shower started quickly followed by a second sponge bath. The second set back. Finally Gabriel was cleaned, dried, clothed, and calmed down. Then a familiar sound came from the back end of his diaper - another diaper change was needed. We managed to get everyone put together, in the car, and headed down the road when I realized that we had left the shower gift sitting on the living room floor. We realized at this point when everything is so new it is pretty easy to just laugh at ourselves and our inexperience. We just hope that we can keep our sense of humor when we do this a year from now.

I am growing!

Obviously Gabriel is a little older than a week now, but we are posting his week old picture in the same week... does that count? Already we are noticing little things that make us realize he is growing. His umbillical cord fell off on Sunday, his little cheeks are getting rounder, his little ear hair is getting fainter, and the premie clothes are getting a little bit more snug. Another thing that we noticed is that his hair is getting a little lighter... perhaps even with a red hint to it in the right lighting? We will do our best to keep adding pictures of his growth, but there is a really cute baby to play with and sometimes we get distracted. Can you blame us?
